Dark Roast Coffee

Dark roast coffee is roasted the longest and typical of European coffee. French roast coffee, Italian roast coffee and Espresso are typically a dark roast. Darker roasts tend to lose some of the flavors of the origin of the coffee and have more of the flavor from the roasting process. They will have an oily surface, less acidity, more bitterness and less caffeine than lighter roasts. Dark roast coffee tends to be heavy bodied due to the aforementioned qualities which is what many dark roast drinkers are looking for.

Harvest

Ripe Arabica beans (called cherries) are harvested once per year.

Sorting

Beans are then pulped, washed and dried in the tropical sun.

Transport

Dried beans are shipped to our Denver roastery in burlap sacks.

Roasting

Our Roastmasters roast the beans at high altitude for more flavor.

Bagging

Then, we bag our beans to keep fresh but still allow for degassing.
