In direct trade relationships, both the buyer and the producer work together over time to produce higher quality coffee, and the farmer is paid a fair price as a direct reflection of the quality of their crop. Additional innovation and quality improvements are therefore encouraged in the farming process, resulting in better wages for the farmers, and better coffee for the roasters and consumers at home.
